History of Andria’s Dancin on the Door Egg Harbor wi

Andria started dancing when she was two years old in Green Bay, WI at Shirley Vans School of Dance. She continued her studies of dance as an adolescent with six-‐week dance intensive programs led annually by well-‐known dance professionals. These events took place in La Crosse, WI where she lived with her grandparents during the summer months. She also studied under the direction of Green Bay School of Dance/Wisconsin Ballet Theater, as well as Lois Carson School of Dance where at the age of fourteen she became a student teacher. At the age of seventeen, she was teaching independently through the YMCA of Green Bay in their outreach program. She developed a complete dance syllabus for her classes and taught in Shawano, Oconto, and Brillion every week for three years.

In 1990, she relocated to Door County and started a family raising two children. In 1995, she presented a dance program idea to the Northern Door Y and started dance classes with a total of fifteen students. In one year, the program grew to sixty students and over the next five years that number grew to just under one hundred students ranging from pre-‐K to senior citizens. The end of season was initially celebrated with a performance concert at the Sister Bay Village Hall. With the expansion of the program, the need for a larger and more professional facility was required and moved to the Door Community Auditorium.

She was asked by several directors of community theater to be their choreographer for such shows as: Music Man, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, and Chicago.

Her teaching career expanded in the county, teaching for the Music and Art School, Sturgeon Bay, WI and taught there for three years, developing a loyal following with full classes. The school later added theater to their curriculum and Andria was asked to choreograph their productions. She also started two successful dance competition teams that performed regionally and at the local Miss Door County Pageant.

In addition to her teachings at the Music and Art School and the Northern Door Y, she has choreographed for the Gibraltar High School and Middle School Plays such as: High School Musical, Artful Lesson, Grease, Seussical, Anything Goes, Once Upon A Mattress, and  Guys & Dolls. The middle school plays include: The Tales of Beatrix Potter, Snow White, Alice in Wonderland, & School House Rock.

She is regularly asked to teach for Friends of Gibraltar’s (FOG) annual Spanish Literacy program, the Exposure to Creativity program with the Hardy Gallery, The Great Egg-Scape in Egg Harbor and the Ministry of Door County’s Art for Health program. She also performs annually at the Door County Renaissance Fantasy Faire, Door County Wise Women Concert Series, and 4th of July parades in Bailey’s & Egg Harbor. In December of 2013, she collaborated with a fellow dance instructor hosting a holiday swing dance party at the Red Oak Winery. The event was well received and patrons have requested more events like this in the future.
